One of the biggest questions surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line entering the 2020 season was how well Stephon Tuitt would rebound from a torn pectoral muscle.

The injury limited Tuitt to nine games in 2019 and, with three years left on his contract, he needed to prove he was worth his $9 million base salary.

Tuitt erased any doubts about his health and his paycheck by getting at least a half sack in four of the first five games. He made a career-high 15 starts, missing one game because of covid-19, and established a career benchmark with 11 sacks, which ranked second on the team.

Tuitt’s success also was partially because of the extra attention Cameron Heyward received at defensive tackle. Heyward, who had 29 sacks combined over the previous three seasons, had his total drop to four, his fewest in a full season as a starter. But Heyward’s continual presence in the pocket contributed to the Steelers leading the NFL with 56 sacks.

The bookends of the Steelers defensive line are under contract for at least two more years — Heyward has four years to go on his deal — which will provide the organization time to fill in the pieces elsewhere.

When nose tackle Javon Hargrave Jersey took the free agent riches offered by the Philadelphia Eagles, Tyson Alualu moved into a starting role for his first time in four years with the Steelers. In his 11th NFL season, Alualu brought a steady presence to the Steelers while moving from defensive end, and he had two sacks and a career-high five pass breakups.

The Steelers, though, find themselves in a similar position at nose tackle as last offseason. Alualu will be an unrestricted free agent in March, and he will turn 34 before the season begins. Alualu showed he still is a productive player in a limited role in the base defense, and the Steelers could try to coax him back with another two-year contract, which would be his third with the team.

If Alualu doesn’t return, the Steelers can try to plug in Carlos Davis, who appeared in seven games but played just 54 defensive snaps as a rookie. Davis earned a roster spot late in the season over another former seventh-rounder, Isaiah Buggs Jersey, who was inactive for three of the final four games of the regular season and for the wild-card playoff game against the Cleveland Browns.

The defensive line depth also includes Henry Mondeaux, an undrafted free agent who made his NFL debut against Tennessee and played in the final 11 games of the year. Although he was used sparingly on defense, Mondeaux was a regular contributor on special teams after his promotion from the practice squad.

The Steelers also signed defensive linemen Calvin Taylor and Demarcus Christmas to futures contracts after the season ended. Taylor (14 weeks) and Christmas (nine) were members of the practice squad last season.

Chris Wormley, who had one sack in 13 games, is the team’s other unrestricted free agent on the defensive line.

Faced with an aging — and high-priced — interior of the offensive line, the Pittsburgh Steelers began preparing for the future last year when they drafted guard Kevin Dotson in the fourth round.

The rookie from Louisiana was thrust into the lineup earlier than expected, making two starts in place of David DeCastro Jersey early in the season and two for Matt Feiler down the stretch while appearing in 13 games.

Dotson performed so well — he was graded the NFL’s top pass-blocking guard by Pro Football Focus (minimum 200 snaps) — that he is expected to start full time in 2021.

Feiler, who started at left guard after playing right tackle in 2019, will be an unrestricted free agent in March. He will be 29 next season and can use his first foray into free agency to get a life-changing contract the Steelers likely won’t match.

Dotson also is a safety measure for DeCastro, the six-time Pro Bowl and two-time, first-team All-Pro selection at right guard. DeCastro turned 31 this month and has one year left on his contract that totals nearly $14.3 million against the salary cap in 2021.

After the Steelers finished No. 32 in rushing, team president Art Rooney II said the organization is committed to fixing that problem. Offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett was fired, and it’s not unreasonable to think changes will be made to the position group.

Although DeCastro was named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth year in a row, he was given the third-worst run blocking grade (58 of 60) by Pro Football Focus. Feiler was No. 41. Maurkice Pouncey was rated No. 28 among 32 eligible centers.

The Steelers could use the No. 24 pick in the NFL Draft to further replenish the interior of the line, be it at guard or center, where Pouncey is at the crossroads of his 11-year career. Pouncey, who will be 32 before the start of the season, is contemplating retirement rather than return to play out the final year of his contract that carries a $14.475 salary cap figure.

J.C. Hassenauer got his first NFL playing time in 2020, starting three games at center and one at left guard. He is an exclusive-rights free agent and can be brought back on the NFL minimum salary. He is the only internal option at center if Pouncey retires.

The Steelers could address the interior via free agency once they get the salary cap figure for 2021 and rework or shed contracts to get compliant. They attempted to add depth that way last season when they signed Stefen Wisniewski Jersey to a two-year contract.

Wisniewski, though, was injured in the season opener and never played another down for the Steelers. He was released and resurfaced at his former home in Kansas City and is set to return to the Super Bowl with the Chiefs next weekend.

The Steelers also lost another guard to waivers when Derwin Gray Jersey was claimed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in December. Danny Isidora was added to the roster late in the season but never got into a game for the Steelers and is an unrestricted free agent.

The only other guard under contract is John Leglue, who also can play tackle. Signed to the practice squad after Gray’s departure, Leglue was in the Denver, New Orleans and Green Bay organizations but hasn’t played in an NFL game.

Steelers WR James Washington Build Your Own Jersey

Custom Jerseyshttps://www.customjerseyspro.com/ From 24$.

There has been a familiar refrain that plenty of my BTSC community brethren have been more than happy to enthusiastically remind me of since the Steelers disappointing end to the 2020 NFL season. The NFL is not a family, it’s big business. Although I personally believe it has to be a bit of both; especially for a franchise with the unmatched legacy of the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is no denying that the NFL is an empire worth billions. However, the moment any business forgets what truly sets them apart and makes them special, they usually cease to be just that.

The 2021 NFL season will be a contract season for Steelers WR James Washington Jersey and the implications of a productive campaign could be huge for his future earnings and stability as a professional. Problem is there are a plethora of unanswered questions that still need answered, ranging from who will be the Steelers starting QB next year to just where Washington will stack up in the WR depth chart when the season rolls around. Both answers will undoubtedly impact Washington’s production in 2021.

Last season Washington was a valuable member of a stacked wide receiver group that went four deep, five actually when you consider seldom used jack of all trades Ray Ray McCloud. He finally was able to develop a solid rapport with Ben Roethlisberger Jersey, to the point where the Steelers veteran signal caller openly expressed his trust in Washington to come down with contested catches in the key moments of the game. That was a far cry from his rookie year where he failed to make any sort of a positive connection with Roethlisberger.

Washington may very well see an substantial uptick in targets next season if everything transpires as expected, but a wise man learns to always expect the unexpected. If the rumors are to be believed, free agent WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is looking to take his brand to a bigger market. While Smith-Schuster denied the rumor shortly after; expressing his desire to remain with the Black and Gold, the logistics of such a move in free agency make perfect sense, both personally and financially.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is from the west coast, and his family still resides there. The latest rumor states that the Las Vegas Raiders are interested in acquiring his services. The Raiders have both cap space and a real need to improve their talent at wide receiver. Closer to home, plus a much larger market for his brand. A talented young receiver taking star billing in the Sin City. What’s not to like if you are Smith-Schuster? Also, JuJu can only guess who the Steelers starting QB will be next year, and the following season. The Raiders QB situation is arguably more stable at the moment.

All this reality would seem to bode well for Washington’s immediate future with the Steelers. Last season he had to compete for targets with the talented trio of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool Jersey, and Diontae Johnson Jersey. Not to mention the talented but unreliable TE Eric Ebron Jersey. If Smith-Schuster does take his talents elsewhere, Washington moves up a spot in the pecking order and sees an increase in opportunities.

Washington will need to continue working hard this off season to expand his route tree and improve his footwork necessary to achieve greater separation on said routes. He made noticeable strides in his game last season. Washington has a knack of gaining a quick three or four yards separation on his deep routes, but defenders easily recover because he lacks true long speed. This requires that Washington and whoever is playing QB moving forward have a strong connection and superior timing.

The Steelers are notorious for selecting a wide receiver during the first couple days of the NFL Draft each year, quite successfully I might add. They are constantly looking to discover inexpensive young talent at the position. That strategy has served them well in the past, but that may not be an option this draft.

First off, one day soon they may no longer have a future Hall of Famer as their starting QB to help the young newcomers shine. Secondly, they have too many holes to fill along the offensive line and at linebacker to use a earlier round selection on another receiver. A stud tight end is entirely possible, but not another receiver. It’s a luxury that the Steelers simply can’t afford this season.

Washington is not as talented as JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey, but I trust he is more than capable of stepping up his game and getting the job done if JuJu does indeed take his talents elsewhere.
